Kick-off to our Advent series! Dr. Veronika Wright (Electrified Veronika) and Prof. Jürgen Janek (Justus Liebig University Giessen) answer your and our best questions about electric cars, batteries and energy transition. The four parts will run on the Sundays of Advent.
In the first part, the following questions will be answered:
- What do you think of standardized battery cell formats and packs? This could mean great advantages for recycling and battery replacement - different sizes and cell chemistries for different scenarios (vacation, work).
- What do you think of VW's plans for a standardized cell?
- Reuse traction batteries after an accident or loss of capacity instead of recycling them: How can cells be remanufactured?
- With the rapid development of current lithium-ion batteries, many are wondering if we even need solid-state batteries anymore?
- What do you think of Toyota's announcement on solid-state batteries?
- With solid-state batteries in particular, we always have the impression from the many start-ups that this is often dubious and works according to the motto "Fake it till you make it". Are there more unfounded promises in this area than in other battery fields?
- In April, CATL presented a condensed battery with over 500 Wh/kg. What has happened since then? Do we now know more about the cell chemistry used?
