The Shenxing battery was recently unveiled as an ultra-fast-charging lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that enables a range of 400 km in 10 minutes of charging. The world's first LFP battery that enables 4C charging is set to go into mass production by the end of the year and will be launched on the market in the first quarter of 2024. The first electric car to be equipped with this battery will be the Avatr 12 from Changan, Avatr is a joint venture between the car manufacturer and CATL. Prof. Maximilian Fichtner discusses the battery innovation in the 100th episode of GELADEN. Shenxing has a new graphite anode, a new electrolyte formulation, a thinner and safer separator and better ion transport. The battery has lower heat generation and is equipped with a new advanced battery management system (BMS). CATL states that the Shenxing battery can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes, even at -10°C.
CATL is currently the largest battery cell manufacturer in the world. Its batteries are used in Tesla, Nio, Neta, BMW and many other vehicles.
