We have been using batteries quite unconsciously in various devices for decades. Recently, technology and battery research have been facing a turning point. Batteries have been chosen to play an important role in the energy and mobility transition. Electricity from renewable energies such as the sun or wind requires stationary energy storage devices and electric cars require high-performance batteries. In this episode, our guest Prof. Helmut Ehrenberg explains how batteries work in the first place and why there is no such thing as one super battery. He gives an overview of the new role of batteries and ventures some predictions for the future.
