CELEST and ZfM strengthen cooperation on basis of Memorandum of Understanding

The Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage | Ulm & Karlsruhe (CELEST) and the Center for Materials Research (ZfM) both focus on basic and application-oriented research on electrochemical energy storage. CELEST pools the know-how of more than 30 institutes of its partner institutions Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Ulm University, and the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW). The Center for Materials Research (ZfM) is an interdisciplinary university research center at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). It is dedicated to the implementation of joint research projects and to the support of early career researchers in materials science. Moreover, the ZfM operates joint method platforms that enable low-barrier access to major research instrumentation.

The aim of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding is to intensify the collaboration by establishing a long-term cooperation in the field of electrochemical energy storage and materials research. In particular, the following goals are being pursued:

  • complementary use of the specific research competencies of the other partner, thereby increasing breadth and depth of expertise,
  • cooperation in the application for and implementation of joint research projects,
  • easier mutual use of research infrastructure,
  • mutual access to graduate programs,
  • joint events and networking.
